May 29, 2014, marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Empress of Ireland near Sainte-Luce-sur-mer. Of the 1,477 people aboard, 1,012 perished in 14 minutes. In 1980, a group of people passionate about the shipwreck founded the Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père. Since then, we have shared this fascinating story with tens of thousands of visitors to Rimouski.

We are organizing a number of activities to mark the 100th anniversary of the shipwreck in 2014. Check this website often to learn more about the Empress of Ireland and her passengers and crew, as well as the events we are planning. If you want to share your story with us, please click here.
